Accounting Manager

Position Summary
The Accounting Manager will oversee the financial operations of a fast-paced commercial landscaping and supply company based in Austin, TX. This role is responsible for managing all accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and supporting strategic decision-making to drive the company’s growth. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, experienced in construction or service-based industries, and adept at managing budgets, payroll, and compliance in a dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Develop and monitor annual budgets, cash flow projections, and financial forecasts to support operational and strategic goals.
- General Ledger Management: Oversee all general ledger activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close processes.
- Accounts Payable/Receivable: Manage AP/AR processes, ensuring timely vendor payments, client invoicing, and collections.
- Payroll Oversight: Administer payroll ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including Texas labor laws.
- Tax Compliance: Coordinate with external tax professionals to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax requirements, including sales tax and property tax filings.
- Cost Accounting: Track project-specific costs for landscaping contracts, ensuring accurate job costing and profitability analysis.
- Audit Preparation: Prepare documentation and support external audits, ensuring compliance with financial regulations and internal controls.
- Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor a small accounting team, fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment.
- Software Utilization: Leverage accounting software (QuickBooks) to streamline processes and maintain accurate records.
- Strategic Support: Collaborate with senior leadership to provide financial insights for contract bidding, equipment purchases, and expansion initiatives.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field..
- Experience: 5+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a managerial role. Experience in construction, landscaping, or service-based industries is a plus.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency QuickBooks including administrator experience and advanced Excel skills. Must have experience in a multi-company environment.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of GAAP, tax regulations, and cost accounting principles. Familiarity with Texas-specific tax and labor laws.
- Leadership: Proven ability to lead and develop a team, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze financial data, identify trends, and provide actionable recommendations.
- Adaptability: Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities and seasonal demands.
